It's Time to Clean Again?!?

Just what do those toxic cleaning supplies do to you? You may be surprised to find out!

Have you ever used one of those spray on cleaners to clean your bathroom and have to hold your breath while you are spraying then leave the room to breathe again and finish cleaning?

I have. Newsflash! Even though the spray isn’t in the air anymore, you are still inhaling the toxins – most of which are chloride based and known to cause hundreds of ailments from respiratory to cancer.  Not to mention that if you don’t use gloves while cleaning the chemicals are being absorbed into your body through your skin.

Even the “big boy” companies are now coming out with products with less chemicals.  Why?  Because they know they have been polluting the planet and potentially harming consumers for years and some of us consumers are fighting back.  They are starting to listen!

It can be a daunting task to think of everything you use in your house and make a change.  If you are really concerned with making a change, I suggest making small changes – baby steps.  Take it one room at a time and remove all the bad products from your house and replace them with eco-friendly, non-toxic ones.  You will be glad you did.

There are some who say just gather all the “bad stuff” in one big box, discard it and replace it with the new eco-friendly versions.  That is fine if you want to do that, but if you are just going to throw the old stuff out in the trash, you may as well just use it.  It is just as bad if not worse sitting in a landfill.  So unless you are prepared to “thoughtfully dispose of” the toxic cleaners, just finish up what you have.  Next time you need to replace it, buy the non-toxic earth friendly version.  Almost every product out there has an earth friendly counterpart these days!  Before you know it, you will be toxic cleaner free!

Every year millions of people walk in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  The ACS posts everywhere about how they are fighting cancer.  I say stop wasting your time fighting it and spend more time avoiding the disease altogether!  I am walking again this year in Salem, N.H. and for the first time will have my own team.  Our goal at the event is to help people learn simple things they can do to help them avoid the disease altogether.  From what you eat to what products you use in your house.

Can we remove cancer from the planet?  I wouldn’t go that far, but there are some cancers that are specifically known to be caused by environmental factors.  It is my opinion that these forms of cancer should be able to be eliminated completely if only we would pay attention to what we put in and on our bodies every day.

We are calling the team “Imagine.”  Imagine the number of cancers that can be avoided all together simply by changing the way we live.  Updating your cleaning supplies to eco-friendly, non-toxic supplies is a great place to start!
