In watching the Salem School Board meeting last night Mike Delahanty talked a bit about trying to help kids who are getting behind in reading before they get too far behind. Of course the devil is in the details. But it seems like a step in the right direction. One observation that many researchers often make on high performing schools is that "Kids do not fall between the cracks because there are no cracks." I do not know exactly what they are doing. But it seems like a step in the right direction. I just hope they check on progress continually and intervene sooner rather than later. Also they should also keep track of which teachers are involved.
Once again, this seems like a step in the right direction. I hope they keep it up. Results orientation as opposed to process orientation is a major change for public education and long overdue.
