Parents of the Year? Not!

When it's your fault your child is the odd man out.

So I am pretty sure we will not be getting any calls for "Parents of the Year" anytime soon.

Monday through Friday mornings Lindsay and Zackary attend the Recreation Department’s summer camp program. It gives me a chance to get some things done with only the two-year-old Menace…I mean Lauren, causing a ruckus in the various places we visit.

It also gives Lindsay and Zackary the chance to act as if the other doesn’t exist for three hours out of the day while they play with other kids, though, when they get home they remember the other is there and the fighting, screaming, whining and sometimes brutality begins again.

So this morning Lindsay and Zackary had a dentist appointment with their dad. He was taking them to the dentist and then driving them to camp. First of course was a stop at Dunkin' Donuts for the breakfast of champions, a nice healthy deep-fried doughnut.

Friday is a field trip day so when he got to the Haigh School the bus was pulling out to head to the playground. I specifically told him to ask when he dropped off if they were going back or did we have to pick them up at the playground. Fast forward to the time I needed to leave. I drive on over to the playground and see kids…but not young and cute first through third graders…I see tweens!

It then dawns on me, three minutes after the time I am supposed to pick them up that they must be back at the school. There is no way to get in touch with the counselors and I now needed to drive halfway across town to get the kids.

Needless to say I was slightly more than 20 minutes late, and when I got there they had already called the house…

The look I got when I picked them up was not of the good natured it can happen to anyone but more like "what a scatterbrain, airhead, mother." Yup folks, that is me!

To add insult to injury the kids informed me that, "Daddy didn’t give them money for ice cream!" You guessed it folks; mine were the only kids on the field trip that did not get ice cream.

Needless to say to ease my conscience after dinner we are making a family ice cream trip to make it up to them where they will of course be able to get anything they want...
