Public education serves unions, administrators, School Boards, text book publishers, Education Schools and many more.  Children are seldom even on the list.  If you don't believe me consider the fact that the single factor suppressing achievement is teacher quality and that bad teachers are seldom fired.  According to most good research, replacing the worst teachers with average teachers alone would dramatically improve education outcomes.   Here is just one of many studies. I have long stated that if public educators really put the kids first, they would have banished the worst teachers from teaching long ago.  They have no intention of doing so. Education reform is routinely hijacked to reinforce the status quo.
