I have fond memories of the Haigh school. As a young lad I played Little League ball and hit my first home run on the field behind the school. I also cracked my best friend's ribs legging a triple. My sons attended Readiness and sixth grade at that school and they too played Little League ball in that same field. I had a dent in the roof of my car from a ball that was lofted into foul territory.
Regardless of the memories, I think it is time to retire the Haigh and I foresee a great future ahead for the building. The Town of Pelham did an excellent job converting an old school building into a municipal building and a police station.
Since we haven't quite outgrown the municipal building yet, there is plenty of room at the Haigh for a new police facility. I am sure that the Haigh can be converted for the police department at less cost than building a new structure.

We know that there are already cells in place at the Haigh, so we won't have to budget for that expense. Ask any kid, going to school is just like being in jail!
Since the Haigh once housed a principal who had a Doctorate than I am sure that our Chief of Police, Deputy Chief of Police and other high ranking officers won't feel snubbed with the quarters. If it's good enough for a doctor, it's good enough for a chief!

The best thing about moving the police station to the Haigh is the location. I don't know if everyone is aware of this but the field behind the Haigh abuts the Pine Grove Cemetery. In the future, when the Zombies rise to dominate the world, Salem's police officers will be right there to defend us!
