Sick Of All The Bad News

I am absolutely sick of seeing all the bad news in the Salem Community Patriot. I am 18, and occasionally, I read the newspaper. I like hearing about my town, and reading about what is going on. But lately, the Salem Community Patriot has disappointed me. I use to enjoy reading the “Thumps up? Thumps down” column, but as of late, it has been nothing but bad news! Not only bad news, but complaining and bashing too!

I believe that yes, we have freedom of speech, and everyone has the right to send in their comments to the Salem Community Patriot, but why does the Salem Community Patriot have to pick the worst comments possible? Two weeks ago, there were over 15 thumbs down, and only one thumb up! This week, there were 17 thumbs down, five thumbs up, and somehow, one “thumbs up/thumbs down.” As usual, the thumbs up are a pleasure to read, and even some of the thumbs down are interesting too. But most of them are horribly annoying!

One of the thumbs down is a thumbs down to Salem itself! I could not believe what I was reading. How can a resident of Salem give a thumbs down to his/her own town? I have a strong belief, that if you do not like where you live, you should move away.

For example, when I hear people complain about how horrible America is, I ask them why they live here. If you do not like this country, why would you live in it? I believe that if you do not like this country, and you do not support this country, then you should leave! I do not want people who are here to make money and that is all! I want people who are loyal to this country, who love this country, and are here not only to make a good live for themselves, but to make this country better! Make it the best in the world!

And I feel the same about the town. If you do not like it here, and all you are going to do is complain, leave! I want people in this town who are not going to sit back and complain, but actually get up and try to fix what is wrong.

There is even a negative thumbs up in the paper, that rants on about how the government is brainwashed and is brainwashing law enforcement. I do not see how that is even a thumbs up! The Salem Community Patriot is getting too negative for me. I know that people find negative news more interesting, but after a while, it get extremely annoying. I turn to my town newspaper for good news about my town, not negative complaining and bashing. How about, instead of sitting around, complaining about the negativity of the town, these people go out and do something about it! Make their voices heard! Stop complaining about what you do not like in the town, and go out and help fix it!
