Stray Dog Safe After Nine Months on the Loose

Bud was brought to safety the day after Christmas.

We know dogs get loose and we get requests for help everyday to find a lost dog but when the call came in this summer to help trap a dog that no one knew we never expected to be bringing him to safety the day after Christmas.

Bud, as he is affectionately known, showed up at a local company one day and when an employee started to leave the hungry dog food Bud decided to stay put.

Although they thought that once Bud was comfortable in his new surroundings he would easily be caught we found that proved to be very far from the truth. When Granite State Dog Recovery (GSDR) was called in to help we made note that this would be no ordinary recovery.

Bud was a very smart dog and would not go into a typical dog trap. GSDR set up numerous traps, placed a trail camera up to track his comings and goings and eventually designed a new trap never been tried before and set the plan in motion.

It took a week to get Bud to go in and out of the open trap without any problem and when we figured he was comfortable enough we live set the trap. On day three we had ourselves a trapped dog.

After nine long months Bud was finally under our control. GSDR partnered with several rescue groups and made arrangements to safely move Bud to a facility to hold him for his 10-day stray hold.

He is currently doing well in his new indoor/outdoor kennel and trying to figure out how to adjust to people helping him. GSDR works very hard to bring a dog to safety once we are alerted to a loose dog.

Sometimes it is simple but more often than not it takes a lot of planning, a lot of partnering and a bit of luck to get them to safety. Bud will be up for adoption in a few weeks once he has been evaluated and he clears his 10-day stray hold.

If anyone knows who this beautiful dog belonged to GSDR would love to be able to contact that family. You can reach GSDR on Facebook or through our website at www.granitestatedogrecovery.com
