It’s No Shave November for Salem Police – to Help One of Their Own
Mackenzie Clark, 17, of Derry, the daughter of Sgt. Chad Clark, was hit by a vehicle, seriously injured last month while walking to school.

SALEM, NH — Police in Salem are growing beards this month and donating money for the daughter of one of their own who was struck and injured in an accident in Derry in October, according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department. Mackenzie Clark, 17, is the daughter of Sgt. Chad Clark, a decorated veteran of the department and football coach in Derry.
Mackenzie was hit by a vehicle while crossing Broadway in Derry on Oct. 19, 2016, while on her way to school at Pinkerton Academy.
“Mackenzie suffered serious non-life threatening injuries to include a fractured skull, broken bones along her spine, numerous fractures of her pelvis, and injuries to her lower leg which required extensive surgery,” Dolan said. “There are no indications the operator of the vehicle slowed down or hit the brakes prior to striking Mackenzie. Mackenzie landed approximately 30 feet away from where she was struck.”

At post time, nearly $13,000 had been raised in a GoFundMe.com effort, to offset the cost of Mackenzie’s treatment and “long road to recovery,” according to Dolan. Officers participating in No Shave November have donated $100 to the family and will be raising money to assist the effort, as well.
“Everyone at the Salem Police Department wishes Mackenzie a speedy and full recovery,” Dolan said.
