Last Chance: Salem Fishing Derby

The Greater Salem Rotary Club will be sponsoring this annual event.

Welcome to the Salem Patch Last Chance, a new Monday feature where we will post a quick reminder about the events, activities or important tasks coming up in the week ahead.

The Salem Recreation Department and the Rotary Club of Greater Salem will be holding their Annual Fishing Derby at Hedgehog Park on Saturday, April 21. The Fishing Derby is free and open to children ages 15 years old and younger. The Derby is scheduled from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m.

Participants sign up on the day of the derby at Hedgehog Park, 52 Lowell Road, Route 38 in Salem.

Children 8 years old and younger register from 8:30 to 9 a.m and fish from 9 to 10:15 a.m. Children 9 to 15 years old register at 9:30 a.m. and fish from 10:20 to 11:20 a.m.

An award presentation will follow at the end of the derby for each age group. Prizes will be awarded to the smallest and largest fish caught per age category. Only one prize per person will be awarded. There are also plenty of free raffle prizes.

Park Place Bowling Lanes provides a coupon for one free game of bowling to each participant.

In order for the children to catch some fish, we are requesting that no one fish at Hedgehog until after 1 p.m. on the day of the Derby. The Fishing Derby event will take place rain or shine.
