Mass. Man Pleads Guilty to Fentanyl Charge

Gentry Martinez of Lawrence, MA, was arrested by New Hampshire State Police with 68.67 grams of fentanyl.

CONCORD, NH - Genfry Martinez, 20, of Lawrence, MA, pleaded guilty in United States District Court for the District of New Hampshire to a federal indictment charging him with one count of possession with intent to distribute the Schedule II controlled substance fentanyl, according to a press statement.

On Feb. 11, 2016, after a traffic stop by the New Hampshire State Police, Martinez was found in possession of what lab results confirmed to be 68.67 grams of the Schedule II controlled drug fentanyl, according to US Attorney Emily Gray Rice. The defendant possessed the drugs with the intention of distributing them.

“The narcotic drug fentanyl is an incredibly dangerous substance responsible for a large number of overdose deaths in New Hampshire,” stated Rice. “I will continue to prioritize the prosecution of individuals who attempt to profit from the sale of this deadly drug.”

Martinez will be detained pending sentencing, which is presently scheduled for Aug. 9, 2016 in front of United States District Judge Paul J. Barbadoro. The statutory maximum sentence is 20 years in prison and criminal fines of up to $1,000,000. Martinez’s actual sentence will be determined by the court at sentencing after a presentence investigation report is completed.

The case was investigated by the New Hampshire State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration and is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Georgiana L. Konesky.
