99 Restaurants Merging With Restaurant Chain

The Woburn-based restaurant chain has more than 100 locations across the Northeast.

WOBURN, MA — The 99 Restaurant & Pub chain's parent company is merging with a company that owns a Nashville-based restaurant chain. J. Alexanders Holdings Inc. has agreed to purchase the 99 for $199 million, including debt, according to a release from Fidelity National Financial, Inc.

Woburn-based 99 has more than 100 locations for casual dining throughout the Northeast. The first restaurant was opened by Winchester-native Charlie Doe in 1952. It's known for hand-breaded Boneless Buffalo Wings, its signature Broiled Sirloin Tips, and famous tall, frosted mugs of beer.

In 2016 the Woburn-based restaurant raised more than $1.4 million for local charities, including Dana Farber, the Boys and Girls Club and Pine Street Inn, according to its website.

J. Alexanders is based in Nashville and owns 42 restaurants between J. Alexander’s, Redlands Grill and Stoney River Steakhouse and Grill.

Fidelity National Financial Ventures LLC is the parent company of the 99 Restaurant. It's merging with J. Alexander Holdings Inc.
