Search for Baby Ends; Police Suspect a Hoax
UPDATE: Salem Fire heads to Haverhill to assist after a baby was reportedly thrown in the Merrimack River.

Salem Fire and Rescue teams are in Haverhill, along the Merrimack River, assisting with the rescue of a baby, according to alerts online.
The request for mutual aid came in around 7:45 p.m. on Dec. 24, 2015, on Ferry Road. Mass. State Police also has eyes in the air and divers assisting, according to alerts. According to notes online. Haverhill Fire had problems with their boat and that’s why they requested Salem to assist.
Some media outlets are reporting that a man threw the baby into the river.

A Haverhill fire official stated that they are searching an area that is about four football fields in size. They have two boats in the water and are using thermal imaging cameras. Other media outlets are reporting that investigators have not yet confirmed that a baby was actually thrown into the river.
At around 10:30 p.m., police ended their search having not found anyone in the river. Some outlets are reporting that the entire incident might be a hoax.
