Salem Man Arrested For DUI After Allegedly Striking Police Cruiser
Joseph Maille was arrested today on reckless conduct, drug, other charges after allegedly striking a cop car and then crashing into a tree.

SALEM, NH — A local man was arrested and released on cash bail after allegedly attempting to flee from police at a drunk driving stop, striking a cruiser and later, a tree, according to Salem Police. Joseph Maille, 25, of Salem, was arrested on June 26, 2017, and charged with aggravated DUI, reckless conduct with a deadly weapon, possession of a controlled drug, transporting drugs in a motor vehicle, reckless operation, open container, and conduct after an accident. At just past 12:30 a.m. this morning, an officer reportedly saw a pickup truck operating erratically in the area of Brookdale Road, according to Sgt. Robert Genest of the Salem Police Department.

“The officer activated his emergency lights and attempted to stop the vehicle as it pulled into the cul-de-sec,” Genest alleged. “The suspect vehicle went completely around the circle and tried to exit by driving head-on toward the officer’s cruiser. As the suspect vehicle exited the circle, it crashed into the front bumper of the cruiser on the driver’s side, causing front end damage.”

A pursuit then began on Jewell Drive, onto Maylane Drive, and then southbound onto Brookdale Road toward Brady Avenue, with the driver allegedly reaching speeds of up to 60 mph while sliding side to side on the wet road, according to a report.
“The suspect vehicle did not stop at the intersection of Pelham Road and Brady Avenue and continued toward Lowell Road," Genest stated. "Once at the intersection with Lowell Road, the fleeing suspect made no attempt to stop, crossing Lowell Road at a high rate of speed and continued onto Brady Avenue south toward Cross Street. The suspect subsequently crashed into a tree while trying to maneuver through a sharp turn in the road.”

The driver – Maille – was arrested and processed. He and an officer were also treated for minor injuries. Maille was released later on $2,000 cash bail and is due in court on July 13.
