“Carter was attempting to pull out of the Salem Ford parking lot and travel north bound on Route 28 when he was struck by Gomez,” according to Lt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department. “The impact sheered Carter’s vehicle in half and he was ejected from the vehicle.”
Salem EMTs transported both men to area hospitals and Carter was later pronounced dead. Gomez was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
“At this time speed is considered a contributing factor to the crash,” Dolan noted. “Investigating officers are awaiting the results of toxicology tests to determine if drugs and/or alcohol may have also contributed to the collision.”
Dolan said the crash is “an active investigation” and “criminal charges are expected to be filed in the near future,” according to the report. Police are also asking for witnesses to come forward in the case while the Rockingham County District Attorney’s Office works on the case.
Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the collision are asked to call the Salem Police Department at 603-893-1911.
