At just before 2 p.m. on Saturday, officers were sent to the mall for a report of a gun threat. When they arrived, they spoke to a man who stated that while walking in the parking lot, he observed two men inside of a vehicle and one reportedly had “a large amount of marijuana in his lap,” according to the report.

“As the caller looked into the vehicle he was confronted by one of the occupants of the vehicle,” according to Capt. Joel Dolan of the Salem Police Department. “The male in the vehicle replied, ‘Have you ever had a gun pointed in your face?’ The caller said he then fled the area with his mother and daughter and called the police.”

Officers located the vehicle and spoke to the men inside the car. They allegedly found numerous bags of marijuana as well as a digital scale and packaging items, according to Dolan. No gun, however, was shown or found at the scene, he noted.
