Who Goes There? Owl Found Under The Hood During NH Oil Change

Cops, a vehicle owner, and car techs are baffled after a trip to Pep Boys in Salem leads to the discovery of an owl under the hood of a car.

SALEM, NH — A routine trip to get an oil change led to the discovery of an owl under the hood of a vehicle, according to Salem Police. Animal Control Officer Corie Bliss and Officer Matt MacKenzie were called to the Pep Boys Auto Parts and Service location on South Broadway after a customer brought in their Nissan and when staffers opened it up the hood, out popped an eastern screech owl. Officers named the owl, Shazam.

“Shazam was sitting on the engine and the car owner had no idea how he got there,” police noted on Facebook. “We figured he was either seeking warmth or chasing a mouse. Shazam was very friendly and was easily handled by Bliss and MacKenzie.”

The owl was lethargic so it was taken to On the Wing, the wildlife bird rehab org in Epping.
