The retired Navy SEAL commander pleaded guilty to a noncriminal trespassing violation on Oct. 23, following a disagreement over permission to remove a hemlock and how to value its loss.
   

• Democrats gain across Upper Valley; Republicans hold Senate District 8 and Newport-area seats (vnews.com) — Sunapee and Springfield will have a new state representative after Democrat Judith Thackaberry defeated Republican incumbent George Grant, 1,524 votes to 1,253. Sunapee voters also rejected a school tax cap, while broader Democratic gains flipped Sullivan County's House delegation from a 9-4 Republican advantage to a 9-4 Democratic majority.
   

• Raymond Peter D'Amante (concordmonitor.com) — Raymond Peter D'Amante, a Sunapee resident whose life included engineering, law, music and Air Force service, died at home Nov. 2 at 83. His family remembers his generosity and commitment to education. Visiting hours are Monday, Nov. 9, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Waters Funeral Home in Concord.
