19 NJ Counties Under Heat Advisory, ‘Oppressively’ Hot Temps Expected

Most of NJ is under a heat advisory this week as dangerously high temperatures are expected to slam the state, forecasters said.

NEW JERSEY - Most of New Jersey is under a heat advisory this week as dangerously high temperatures are expected to rattle the state, forecasters said.

All New Jersey counties are under a heat advisory - save for Sussex and Warren counties - as heat index values up to 107 are expected through 8 p.m. on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

“Oppressively hot and humid conditions will begin today,” the National Weather Service Mount Holly station tweeted on Wednesday. “The heat wave is expected to continue through at least Sunday with highs well into the 90s for most of the area each day. Thursday and Sunday are expected to be the most oppressive days.”

Although Thursday is slated to see an average high of 95 degrees in the state, the humidity and muggy conditions could make it feel much warmer. At the shore, temperatures could reach up to 100 degrees in Atlantic City, 102 degrees in Cape May and 105 degrees in Toms River, as well as 106 and 103 degrees in Trenton and Morristown, respectively.

Nighttime won’t offer much relief either, forecasters said, as temperatures are set to linger in the high 70s.

“Hot temperatures and high humidity may cause heat illnesses to occur,” the National Weather Service said in the advisory. “Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out
of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances.”
