NEW JERSEY — At least seven people were killed over the long Christmas weekend, including a 61-year-old North Jersey man whose son was charged with murder on Christmas Eve. Two other men were shot and killed, while multiple drivers lost their lives in crashes.

Son Charged In Father's Christmas Eve Slaying

A 33-year-old man has been charged with murder in connection with the Christmas Eve slaying of his father in the Boonton Township home they shared, prosecutors said.

Boonton police officers were dispatched to a home on Old Denville Road in response to an emergency call at around 1:15 p.m., said the Morris County Prosecutor's Office. When they arrived, they found Gregory Meyer, 61, dead, according to officials.

Investigators determined his son, Kyle Meyer, 33, was a suspect, and he was detained in Paterson at around 9 p.m., the prosecutor said. Kyle Meyer faces charges including murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon.

Two Men Die In Separate Newark Shootings

Essex County officials are searching for information in shootings that claimed the lives of a 27-year-old Newark man and a 22-year-old East Orange man.

The first took place near the 200 block of Springfield Avenue on Friday night, where officials found 27-year-old Rodney Write suffering from several gunshot wounds. The second shooting was Saturday evening in Newark. Officials said 22-year-old Kareem Guilford was shot around 6 p.m. on the 100 block of Mountainview Avenue.

27-Year-Old Killed In Single-Vehicle Crash

Hamilton Township Police said the driver of a Mazda Miata died after crashing into the woods off Black Horse Pike. Officials said 27-year-old James Rodriguez of Minotola (Buena Borough) "was heading west on the Black Horse Pike when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with multiple trees." He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Driver, 23, Dies After Vehicle Hits Utility Pole

A South Brunswick man died early on Christmas Eve, after police said his 2012 Honda Accord struck a utility pole. The crash was reported at 12:53 a.m. on Route 1 south by New Road, said police in the township. Anyone with information may call PFC Bryan Sites at (732) 329-4648.

2 Killed, 2 Injured In South Jersey Car Crash

Two people were killed and two were critically injured in a late-night car crash in Deptford on Saturday, police said.

Police responded to the single-vehicle crash on the 500 block of Fox Run Road at about 12:38 a.m. on Dec. 23, according to a news release.

Of the four people in the car, two were pronounced dead on the scene, police said. The two survivors were taken to Cooper University Hospital where they were in critical condition as of Saturday morning, police said.
