Where in New Jersey can you get the best ice cream? Here's a list of ice cream shops that have officially opened for the season:
- Curly's Ice Cream, 30 NJ-23, Riverdale
- This old-school parlor is known for its inventive flavors and serves a variety of scoops, shakes, and sundaes including two soft-serve vegan/dairy-free sorbets flavors. Curly's is open from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. "For 60 years, Curly’s Ice Cream has been a destination for old fashion frozen desserts. - Mark & Julies Homemade Ice Cream, 476 Pleasant Valley Way, West Orange
- Now celebrating 27 years, Mark & Julies Homemade Ice Cream is known for their 52 flavors, including special holiday and seasonal flavors, as well as sugar-free, fat-free and low-fat ice creams and yogurts. Mark And Julies is Kosher Certified by Vaad of Metro West and is open from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m.
- Das' Creamery, 100 US-46, Budd Lake
- Das’ Creamery opened in 2014 after the Das family decided to explore their love for ice cream. "Every vacation has a memorable ice cream highlight from maple ice cream in Quebec, Canada to gelato of every flavor in Florence and Rome, Italy. We enjoy drawing from our travels and imaginations when we create our unique flavor combinations. - Penguin Ice Cream, 3 Claremont Rd, Bernardsville
- Penguin Ice Cream is a local ice cream shop that offers a variety of flavors as well as specialty cakes and pies. They are well-known for their 40+ homemade flavors made with high-quality ingredients. "We make ice cream cakes and cupcakes, milkshakes, malts, sundaes, flurris, chipwiches, flying saucers, pies, and even dog treats," said the company's social media page.
- Ice Cream On Grand, 523 Grand Ave, Englewood

- Dover Dairy Made has the appearance of an old-fashioned ice cream shop. It is a family-run establishment of over 35 years that serves novelty treats, sundaes, cakes, cones and cups. Dover Dairy Maid is open Monday through Thursday, 12 to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday, 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m.
- Applegate Farm, 616 Grove St, Montclair
- This is the flagship stand for ice cream made on a farm dating back to the 1840s. The classic ice cream shop is known for its unique flavors such as orange pineapple and graham cracker ice cream. Applegate Farm is open Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. and Friday through Sunday from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.
- Cookman Creamery, 711 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park
- Cookman Creamery was founded by a mother-daughter team, Norah and Melissa Marler, and is now owned by Jimmy and Mike Johnson, a father-son duo. The family-owned shop makes artisanal ice cream in unique flavors, as well as vegan options. Cookman's is open from Monday through Thursday, 12 to 10 p.m. and Friday through Saturday from 12 to 11 p.m.
- Skipper Dipper, 9305 Long Beach Blvd, Long Beach
- Trips to Skipper Dipper are as important to many vacationers as trips to the beach on Long Beach Island. - This vintage parlor serves homemade ice cream cones, sundaes, and shakes, as well as burgers and subs. Royale Crown was first established in 1953 by The Graziano Family and still remains today a premier homemade gourmet ice cream and award-winning food eatery.
- Vincent's Ice Cream Shop, 54 High St, Mt Holly

Heavenly Havens is open Monday through Friday from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. and 12 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
