Gas Prices: How NJ Compares With The Rest Of The U.S.

NEW JERSEY —Gas prices are the highest they've been since 2008 in the Garden State, and are increasing across the country.

Monday, the national gas price average is $4.325, according to AAA. New Jersey's average price of $4.355 is close to the middle of the pack.

Prices are increasing across the board, and especially at the pump. That pinch is expected to continue. Last Tuesday, President Joe Biden ordered a ban on Russian oil imports in retaliation for Vladimir Putin's onslaught in Ukraine.

In New Jersey, the cheapest county to get gas is Gloucester ($4.235). Surrounding counties in South Jersey and the shore have lower-than-average prices as of Monday, according to AAA.

Counties in the north tend to be more expensive: Morris, Essex, Somerset, and Mercer have the highest prices in the state, close to $4.40 on average. Warren County, though, is a bit lower at $4.279. Bergen and Sussex counties are also close to average.
