Storm Track Shift Triggers Weather Alerts Across NJ

Rain rates near two inches per hour could be possible with stronger storms over the weekend, forecasters said.

Rain falling in clips of two inches an hour has triggered flood warnings throughout the Garden State, the National Weather Service (NWS) said.

According to the latest forecast, showers and storms will end Sunday morning. The flood watches are set to expire by 10 a.m.

The storm track shift has triggered flood alerts in The flood watch includes Bergen, Union, Hudson, Essex, Passaic, Morris, Camden, Gloucester, Hunterdon, Mercer, Middlesex, Monmouth, Ocean, Salem, Somerset and Burlington counties.

Parts of Southern NJ by the Delaware River are under a slight risk for excessive rainfall leading to flash flooding, forecasters said.

NORTH JERSEY

  • Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 8 a.m., then a chance of showers and thunderstorms between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. High near 82. South wind 5-9 MPH becoming northwest in the afternoon. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 68.

CENTRAL JERSEY

  • Sunday: Showers before 11 a.m., then showers likely and possibly a thunderstorm between 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. High near 84. Calm wind becoming southwest around 5 MPH. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: Partly cloudy, with a low around 67.

SOUTH JERSEY

  • Sunday: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm, mainly before 2 p.m., then a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. High near 84. West wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 80%. New rainfall amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.
  • Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 70.
