NJ's 10 Safest Cities, According To New Study
Overall, the state had a strong showing with its low rates in both violent crime and property crime.
A new study examines the safest cities in every state in the country. The rankings from Safewise "are intended to highlight cities with low per capita crime and ignite conversation and action around how to make all cities and communities safer."
In New Jersey, the analysis found that the safest community is Vernon Township for the third year in a row.
"Everyone wants to feel safe at home," Safewise wrote. "Whether you're checking in on your current city or scouting out a new one, we've crunched the numbers on crime rates across the country."

Overall, New Jersey fared well in the study. The violent crime rate in the Garden State is 2.46 incidents per 1,000 people, which is lower than the national average of 4.43 and the seventh lowest violent crime rate nationwide.

Property crime has increased slightly in recent years, rising from 15.7 incidents per 1,000 people in 2024 to 15.88 incidents in this year's report. Still, that's half the national property crime rate of 22.89 and ranks as the fifth lowest property crime rate nationwide, according to Safewise.

The number one way New Jersey residents protect their property is with security cameras at 49 percent followed by security systems at 26 percent.
