New Timeline For Thunderstorms, Hail Targeting NJ

Thunderstorms are expected to hit the Garden State Wednesday, followed by an increase in heat throughout the rest of the week.

According to the latest forecast from the National Weather Service (NWS), humidity is expected to increase “substantially” on Wednesday, despite highs remaining in the mid-80s under mostly cloudy skies.

A few morning showers are possible, followed by scattered thunderstorms forecast to develop throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening, around 4-10 p.m.

A few of these storms could be “strong to severe,” with locally damaging winds and brief heavy downpours possible.

According to the NWS, some of these storms are capable of producing damaging winds and hail up to one inch in diameter, though the storms are listed as "marginal risk" by the weather service.

The NWS is advising New Jersey residents to monitor the latest forecasts and make sure they can receive watches and warnings.

Following scattered thunderstorms forecast throughout Wednesday afternoon and evening, temperatures are expected to turn “much hotter” on Thursday and Friday, though there will be an increasing threat of severe thunderstorms both days.

A Heat Advisory is in effect for parts of the area starting at 11 a.m. on Thursday until 8 p.m. on Friday.
