Mold Found In 26 NJ Classrooms Forces Students Into Remote Learning

Mold was discovered in 10 rooms in Bobby's Run School and 16 rooms in Lumberton Middle School, the district's superintendent said Wednesday.

LUMBERTON, NJ — Students at two New Jersey schools in one district are being forced to switch to remote learning after mold was found in 26 classrooms, Lumberton Township School District announced in a letter to the community Wednesday.

Mold was discovered in 10 rooms in Bobby's Run School and 16 rooms in Lumberton Middle School in Lumberton, Superintendent Dr. Colleen Murray said.

Students attending Bobby's Run will have their classes relocated to areas of Lumberton Middle School that are not impacted, while Lumberton Middle School students will switch to remote learning beginning Thursday, Murray announced.

Officials do not yet know when the clean-up will be finished, though Murray said LMS families should plan for the possibility of two weeks of remote learning.

"It’s important to note that we are working diligently to get a definitive remediation date to bring LMS students and staff back as soon as it’s safe to do so," Murray said.

Bobby's Run is operating on a two-hour delay Thursday to give staff time to relocate and prepare for the switch. Remote learning for Lumberton Middle School students will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday.

The district's calendar will not be impacted.
