NEW JERSEY — Election Day is here, and New Jerseyans are casting their votes. Several Congressional, county and municipal seats are on the line in the primary elections. With polling stations open Tuesday, here's what state residents should know.

When Can I Vote?

Some New Jersey voters have already cast their ballot through early voting or via mail. But for those who haven't cast a vote yet, they can go to their polling place until 8 p.m. Tuesday. If you're in line by 8 p.m., you're allowed to vote.

Additionally, voters dropping off mail-in ballots have until 8 p.m. Tuesday to place them in a dropbox. If there's a line at the dropbox and you're there before the deadline, you can still cast your vote. Then, the dropboxes are locked.

You can also drop off a mail ballot at one of the election dropboxes or your county's board of elections office by 8 p.m. Tuesday. But make sure you only put it in a dropbox in the county for which you're registered to vote. Find dropbox locations here.

How Do I Know If My Vote Was Counted?

Visit the state's "Track My Ballot" webpage. If you don't have a My Voter Record account, scroll down to find instructions for setting one up.

The state warns that each individual county will update the status of each ballot, so the amount of time it takes to find updates will vary by county.

Who Can Vote?

In New Jersey, you must be a registered member of a political party to vote in their primaries.

Unaffiliated, registered voters may walk into a polling location and ask for a ballot. But voters who do so must declare a party when they do so.

You do not have to vote for candidates in your registered party during the General Election.

What Congressional District Do I Live In?

The state's bipartisan Congressional Redistricting Commission created a new map to reflect 2020 U.S. Census data, and this is the first Congressional election in which that new map takes effect.

Find the new map here. The webpage also includes more details maps of cities and towns in multiple Congressional districts.

Where Can I Find Election Results?

Patch will begin posting available results as they come in at 8 p.m. Tuesday. Keep in mind that results remain unofficial until county clerks certify them.

Competitive elections may have no apparent winner at the end of Election Night. But county clerks have until June 20 to certify voting results.
