Severe Storms, Damaging Winds, Hail Head To NJ: See Latest Forecast
Thunderstorms could turn severe Friday afternoon into evening, bringing damaging wind gusts and hail, forecasters say.
NEW JERSEY — The cool, dry weather New Jersey has had this past week is coming to an end as the region sees its first heat wave of the year and the potential for some nasty storms, according to forecasters.
"After a warm and sunny Thursday, we could be looking at a rather stormy Friday," the National Weather Service said.

Friday afternoon and evening will see showers and thunderstorms, with some becoming severe, forecasters said. The greatest risk is in North Jersey, with possible urban and poor drainage flooding.

The main threat of these storms, according to forecasters, is damaging wind gusts and some large hail. Gusts could be nearly 60 mph, forecasters said.
The storms will be ushered in by a cold front, which will provide for a "rather tranquil" weekend in New Jersey, according to forecasters. But that won't last as a heat wave strikes the area early next week, with temperatures spiking into the 90s.
