These NJ School Districts Pay $200K For Administrators: See What Your District Pays

Public schools have opened across New Jersey this week, with superintendents and principals and a variety of other administrators aiming to make sure the year gets off on the right start.

Supervising schools and school districts is a significant responsibility, and those administrators, who have master's degrees and doctorates, typically are paid six-figure salaries.

In some districts the median salary exceeds $200,000 per year.

The category includes superintendents and assistand superintendents, principals, vice principals, and supervisors of various areas including curriculum, planning (which encompasses testing) and more.

The majority of the highest median salaries are in Bergen and Morris counties, topped by the Waldwick School District, where the median administrator salary was $226,890 in the 2025-26 school year.

The lowest median administrator salary was for the Seaside Heights School District, which has a shared services agreement for its superintendent and business administrator with the Central Regional School District.
