These NJ Towns Saw The Most Residents Leave In 2021: Census
How many towns lost thousands of residents last year? Here are the latest New Jersey estimates from the U.S. Census Bureau.
NEW JERSEY - More North Jersey residents uprooted and left their homes than state residents living anywhere else in 2021, according to a recent U.S. Census Bureau estimate report.
The annual report, which compared city and town population totals between 2020 and mid-2021, reported that Hudson County topped the statewide list with around 20,000 residents moving out of the area. In fact, several towns from Hudson County population losses in the thousands last year.
As far as percent changes go, municipalities like Pine Borough saw their populations slashed virtually in half, with Pine Borough’s population shrinking from 20 people in 2020 to just an estimated 13 in 2021.

The Garden State lost about 12,600 residents within the survey period, which gathered data based on factors like housing availability.
