NEW JERSEY - Convenience store giant Wawa is planning to double its number of nationwide stores as part of an eight-year expansion plan.

In what has been dubbed its “most aggressive growth” plan ever, the company plans to open another 1,800 locations by 2030, Wawa CEO Chris Gheysen told the Philadelphia Business Journal.

Gheysen mentioned that the new stores are set to come to existing markets and new territories, with a goal to “fill in the market” between southern states like Virginia and Florida.

Around 100 stores are eventually expected to open per year, Gheysen added, with 54 new locations set to open in 2022. In New Jersey, six openings are planned through the fall in North Bergen, Vineland, Egg Harbor City, Frankford, Voorhees and Union.

The new stores planned through 2030 will be a mix of “traditional” and “non-traditional;” storefronts, such as rest-stop style outposts and standalone drive-thru stores, Gheysen told the Philadelphia Business Journal.
