Asbury Park developer iStar celebrated the July opening of Asbury Ocean Club Hotel, set within Asbury Ocean Club Surfside Resort & Residences, with an official ribbon-cutting ceremony on Monday.

As the Jersey Shore’s first five-star luxury boutique hotel, the 54-key property is considered the crown jewel of iStar’s decade-long, multi-billion-dollar redevelopment for a 1.25-mile stretch along the Asbury Park waterfront.

Built on a site abandoned by former developers for decades, the luxury building that houses the Asbury Ocean Club Hotel is a milestone for the city, New Jersey, and the East Coast. The 17-story tower stands coolly and confidently against the shoreline -- a symbol of the new era it represents for the iconic Jersey coastline.

“We are proud to deliver on our promise to the community, bringing life to a site that has sat vacant for more than 30 years and stood as an eyesore in the City for far too long. We now debut a world-class building that is the first of its kind for the region,” says Brian Cheripka, senior vice president of land development at iStar.

Bringing together a roster of talent behind some of the world's most iconic hotels, Asbury Ocean Club Hotel features top-of-the-line amenities including an ocean-view pool and deck, pampering spa, state-of-the-art fitness center by bespoke fitness brand, The Wright Fit and The Drawing Room, an awe-inspiring “glass house” located at the heart of the property serving as an all-day, year-round retreat.

With 11-foot floor-to-ceiling windows, each guestroom includes expansive terraces that offer sweeping views of either the Atlantic or sand-dune landscape.

Local partners such as Asbury Park Distilling Co., Maiden Coffee, and Asbury Park Brewery play a vital role in the property’s culinary offerings. A public marketplace and a fine-dining restaurant spearheaded by a high profile chef is set to debut on the ground floor in 2020.

iStar’s first several projects will account for more than 20 percent of the city’s overall property tax revenue, and the developer has been a strong force for fueling jobs within the Asbury Park community.

Through Salt Hotels’ acclaimed hospitality training program, Salt School, nearly 300 locals have received complimentary training from internally acclaimed hospitality leaders, with 80 percent finding employment at Asbury Ocean Club Hotel and other iStar projects.

The training program is a testament to iStar’s investment in the community, which includes contributions together with vendor partners that total over three quarters of a million dollars to local organizations like The Boys & Girls Club of Monmouth County.

Reservations are live with bookings available here; special introductory rates available off-season begin at $295, in season from $395.
