About Simon taps Safari Energy to boost sustainability initiative at Jersey Shore Premium Outlets

TINTON FALLS, N.J. (January 24, 2019) - Simon, a global leader in premier shopping, dining, entertainment and mixed-use destinations today announced a significant new solar panel installation at Jersey Shore Premium Outlets. Safari Energy, LLC, a New York based clean energy developer, is set to install nearly 700 additional solar panels to augment the existing panel system on the center’s roof. Combined, the systems are expected to produce over 302,000 kilowatt hours of clean and renewable electricity at the center each year.

Jersey Shore Premium Outlets strives for efficiency in innovative solutions that lower operational costs and reduce environmental impact such as renewable energy, water and waste management.  “We are always looking for opportunities to minimize our impact on the environment,” said Janet Porter, general manager of the center. “These improvements illustrate Simon’s commitment to its sustainability strategy and further Jersey Shore Premium Outlets’ commitment to pioneering renewable energy in the community.”

The second phase of Jersey Shore Premium Outlets’ solar panel installation is set to begin before April. The additional panels will work in tandem with the 1,300 panels originally installed by SoCore Energy in 2012, and the center’s carbon footprint and energy costs will be further reduced by at least 55% through this project.

Simon works to incorporate sustainable thinking into all areas of business - including construction, operations, community engagement, and work environment – for the centers in its portfolio. Simon has continued to use energy conservation practices that have reduced energy consumption at its properties every year since 2003.
