Murphy Vs. Ciattarelli: How Asbury Park Voted
In the closest gubernatorial election in decades, here's a look at how Asbury Park residents voted.
ASBURY PARK, NJ — It has been the closest gubernatorial race in decades. With the race declared for Phil Murphy over Jack Ciattarelli with 98 percent of the votes counted statewide, here's a look at how Asbury Park and Monmouth County voted.
The voter turnout in Monmouth County was 47.85 percent (235,242 voters), according to unofficial tallies published by the Monmouth County Clerk’s Office, Of 495,210 registered voters in the county, there are 146,933 registered Republicans, 144,131 registered Democrats, and 198,226 unaffiliated voters.
In Asbury Park, 23.17 percent of the city’s registered voters cast ballots in the general election.

Of the city’s 9,718 registered voters, 550 cast ballots for Ciattarelli and 1,639 opted for Murphy, according to the unofficial vote tallies.

For the NJ 11th District state senate race, incumbent Sen. Vin Gopal declared victory over Republican challenger Lori Annetta last week, touting his resistance over the "Republican Red Wave" that swept through the state. Read more: Sen. Gopal Declares Victory, Assembly Race Too Close To Call
In Asbury Park, 1,664 cast ballots for Gopal and 489 selected Annetta, according to the unofficial vote tallies.
In the race for County Commissioner, incumbent Sue Kiley received 523 votes, whereas Michael Beson took the lead in Asbury Park with 1,577. Kiley has since been declared the winner in the county, garnering a total 135,397 votes over Beson’s 87,696.
The official election results will be determined at the Board of Canvassers meeting on Nov. 15 and the County Clerk must certify official election results to the Secretary of State by Nov. 20.
As of 2 p.m. Friday, Murphy had a margin of 57,379 votes — 1,273,034 to 1,215,655 according to the Associated Press.
All ballots postmarked before Nov. 2 will be counted until Nov. 8.
