ASBURY PARK, NJ — Thirty-five Target team members joined Clean Ocean Action’s Beach Sweeps in Asbury Park on Saturday, April 11, helping remove litter and debris from the shoreline during the nonprofit’s statewide spring cleanup.

Clean Ocean Action’s Beach Sweeps program, which began in 1985, has become one of New Jersey’s longest-running coastal cleanup efforts. Volunteers remove debris from beaches and waterways while also collecting data used to track pollution trends and support long-term environmental advocacy.

In addition to Asbury Park, Target team members also participated in Beach Sweeps events in Ocean City, Palmyra Cove Nature Park, South Amboy and the Englewood Picnic Area/Boat Basin.

“We’re proud to join Clean Ocean Action for Beach Sweeps in Asbury Park and across New Jersey,” said Caleb Davidson, Target Store Director. “Target is committed to being a strong steward of the communities we serve, and we’ve supported Clean Ocean Action’s work for years. For our team members, this is a meaningful way to help care for the beaches and shore communities they know and enjoy.”

The volunteer effort reflects Target’s broader commitment to supporting the communities it serves through volunteerism and local giving. Last year in New Jersey, Target gave more than $9.6 million in product and cash donations, including more than 4.5 million pounds of food to local food banks, and team members volunteered more than 27,000 hours in the community.

“Target’s commitment to protecting the coast and ocean makes Beach Sweeps possible year after year,” said Meg Sulzberg, Plastic-Free Sea Coordinator at Clean Ocean Action. “Their partnership has allowed us to grow this program to nearly 80 sites, empower thousands of volunteers to take action, collect key environmental data, and drive meaningful change.”

During the event, volunteers in Asbury Park joined ongoing efforts to help care for New Jersey’s coastline and keep local communities cleaner. Across the state, Beach Sweeps volunteers document and collect debris data to help track pollution trends and support long-term efforts to protect marine life and reduce litter.
