These NJ Dogs Still Need A Home – One Week After National Dog Day

If there was ever a time when dogs shouldn't need a home, it's National Dog Day. But many NJ dogs are still looking for them. Here they are.

NEW JERSEY – If there was ever a time when dogs shouldn't need a home, it's National Dog Day. And for many dogs, there's still time for somebody to pick them up since it was their day on Monday, Aug. 26.

Patch has compiled a list of dogs who have been looking for owners (see below). While this list doesn't include every dog that's been looking for a home, it's at least a start.

Many shelters are looking for any help they can get. Indeed, many dogs have been living in shelters for as long as a year.

On Sunday, Aug. 25, East Orange Animal Shelter went so far as to help dogs "put on their best back-to-school faces" for an adorable photo shoot. Read more: Dogs In East Orange Still Smiling Despite Long Shelter Stays

Volunteer photographer Marcela Garcia Mangan, who has been taking photos of the East Orange shelter’s adoptable pets for the past year, came up with the photo-shoot idea when brainstorming ways to help get the dogs exposure to potential adopters.

“The fact that some of these dogs have been living at the shelter for as long as a year yet are still smiling is not only a testament to the care they receive at the shelter, but also to the unbreakable spirit of rescue dogs,” said Garcia Mangan. “My hope is that my photos will inspire people to come meet these awesome dogs and adopt one them. That's what makes it all worth it.”

So far it seems like that wish might come true; the photos have been shared far and wide on social media, which is often the first step in an adoptable pet’s journey to a forever home.
