Barnegat-Area Coronavirus Updates: Businesses Temporarily Close

Here are the latest local updates on how the coronavirus outbreak is impacting Barnegat and Manahawkin.

Correction: The Southern Ocean Center has 16 cases among staffs, not deaths. Patch regrets the error.

BARNEGAT, NJ — There's a lot of news to keep up with right now — locally, nationally and worldwide. Here's a recap of coronavirus updates in Barnegat and Manahawkin.

The Ocean County Health Department has reported 255 cases and 12 deaths in Barnegat as of Thursday morning. That's an increase of 13 cases and one death since Patch's last update June 1.

The OCHD has reported 242 cases and 26 deaths in Stafford as of Thursday morning, an increase of five cases and two deaths since June 1.

The health department announced 27 new cases Wednesday in Ocean County, bringing the total to 9,048. The virus has killed 795 in the county, according to the OCHD.

The State has reported the following in Barnegat and Stafford longterm care facilities as of Thursday morning:

  • Southern Ocean Center: 55 cases and 13 deaths among residents, 16 cases among staff
  • Barnegat Rehabilitation & Nursing Center: nine cases and two deaths among residents, 13 cases among staff
  • Manahawkin Nursing and Rehabilitation Center: 18 cases and one death among residents, six cases among staff
  • Atria Senior Living, Manahawkin: one case and one death among residents, one case among staff

Recent Updates

  • Two Long Beach Island businesses temporarily closed after someone in each of their facilities tested positive for the coronavirus: Pearl Street Market and The Chicken Or The Egg.
  • Barnegat, Manahawkin and Long Beach Island eateries are getting ready for the next stage. The state will allow outdoor dining starting next Monday as New Jersey enters the next phase of coronavirus recovery. MORE.
  • The Lighthouse International Film Festival in LBI announced the lineup for its drive-thru film fest. MORE.
  • Stafford Recreation will hold summer camp this year. But it will feature some modifications because of the coronavirus. MORE.
  • Stafford's Founders Day was postponed from June 13 to Aug. 29 because of the coronavirus. MORE.

Testing

Ocean County drive-thru testing takes place at Ocean County College in Toms River. Patients must meet the following requirements to get tested:

  • You must be an Ocean County resident and have identification.
  • You must have a healthcare practitioner script.
  • You must make an online appointment at www.ochd.org.
  • You must be symptomatic.

Rite Aid on Mule Road in Toms River now offers coronavirus testing. Patients will have to swab their nostrils themselves. MORE.

AtlantiCare Physician Group Primary Care and Urgent Care also now offers testing in Little Egg Harbor. MORE.

Hackensack Meridian Urgent Care on Long Beach Island can test whether patients were previously infected with the coronavirus. Hackensack Meridian's urgent care centers began antibody testing May 2. MORE.
