Barnegat High School Recognizes Student Scholarship Supporters
Barnegat Township School District hosts community members for a breakfast event recognizing local scholarship donors for supporting students

Barnegat Township, NJ – Over a dozen businesses and organizations from cultural clubs to medical practices attended Barnegat Township School District’s (BTSD) annual Scholarship Donor Breakfast information session on Tuesday, Jan. 23 in the high school’s media center. These organizations donate to senior scholarship opportunities each year.
To date, BTSD has distributed roughly $1.7 million since the first graduating class in 2008, with each year averaging approximately $130,000 to BHS graduating seniors.
“The main purpose of this breakfast is to recognize and express our sincerest gratitude to the donors who continue to assist our students in their post-graduation goals and ambitions. We also provide an opportunity to interact with the community face to face,” said BTSD Supervisor of Guidance Carolyn Johnson. “As hoped, this year the response from the community was excellent, and we were proud to offer them a morning of networking and delicious food.”

Speakers such as senior class president Yasmeen Muhammad, Board of Education Vice President Doreen Continanza, Barnegat High School’s Counseling Department, School Counselor and Scholarship Coordinator Lindsey Wasiak, and District Supervisor of Guidance Carolyn Johnson discussed upcoming dates and deadlines as well as miscellaneous scholarship information with attendees. Muhammad thanked the donors on behalf of the entire senior class for their support and assistance in future endeavors. She also provided insight into what the senior class is currently working on and the excitement they share for the months leading up to graduation.
“Community partnerships are the glue that holds it all together,” said Superintendent Dr. Brian Latwis. “We’re teaching our students to become the future leaders and business owners of our community with the help of the successful organizations that are currently just beyond our doors. They provide not only donations but learning opportunities for our students to help them navigate what’s to come after graduation.”
