UPDATED: Barnegat Man Shoots Self in Head After Police Standoff
Pinewood Estates resident, wanted on arrest warrant out of Arizona, is being treated for gunshot wound at AtlantiCare

A Barnegat man is being treated for a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head after shooting himself following a standoff with police in the Pinewood Estates mobile home park Monday night, officials said.
Barnegat police arrived at the Redwood Drive home of 51-year-old Carmine Maggio at about 7:30 p.m. Monday to execute an arrest warrant out of Arizona, according to a news release from the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.
Maggio, who was alone in the home, refused to surrender to police and ran from the doorway, officials said, and a county warrant execution team was then called in. The warrant team ultimately entered the home and found Maggio inside the bathroom, according to the release. Just as he was about to be taken into custody, Maggio shot himself in the head with a small-caliber handgun.
