WHAT WE'RE WORKING ON:

Today, we've got a couple of stories that look back. First up is an article about Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station a year after the nuclear disaster in Japan put increased focus on reactors here at home.

EVENTS:

  • The first of a series of regular blood pressure screenings offered by the Ocean County Health Department will be held today from 10 a.m. to noon at the Barnegat Library. The screenings are free and open to the public, and will be held every first Wednesday.

WEATHER:

Because of dry conditions and wind, the National Weather Service has issued a red flag warning for much of the state from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. This means that the risk of a fire spreading, if one should start, is unusually high.

  • Today: Sunny, with a high near 60. Southwest wind between 9 and 18 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph. 
  • Tonight: Partly cloudy, with a low around 44. South wind between 10 and 14 mph.

  • 1:09 p.m.: Low
  • 6:54 p.m.: High
