Barnegat Police Chief To Retire After 30 Years

Keith Germain, a Barnegat native serving on the police department for 30 years, will be stepping down this spring.

BARNEGAT, NJ — Barnegat will be getting a new police chief this spring as Keith Germain heads into retirement.

Germain's retirement was approved on the Barnegat Township Committee's consent agenda at the latest meeting. After serving as chief since 2018, Germain will hand the reins over to Capt. Jason D. Carroll, according to the agenda.

Germain, a Barnegat native and 30-year veteran of the police department, created the crime reduction unit and worked to improve community policing during his time as chief.

Outside of the department, Germain's accomplishments include being elected as second vice president of the New Jersey State Association of Chiefs of Police and graduating from the FBI National Academy.

He told The Sandpaper that his last day would be March 13, and that he had accomplished everything he had set out to do as chief.

"It has been an unbelievable dream and privilege to spend the last 30 years working with the amazing team here," he told the newspaper.
