Barry Adair Of Ship Bottom Dies At 84

Visitation will be held today, Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday.

Barry Adair, 84, of Ship Bottom passed away on Friday, February 19 at home.

Barry was a lifelong seeker of knowledge, a voracious reader, lover of all things Irish, master woodworker, avid sailor and happiest when near the sea. A veteran of the US Navy, he was privileged to serve aboard the USS Arneb as part of the International Geophysical Year. During the Arneb’s 25,000 mile, year-long circumnavigation of the world, the scientific expedition supplied military and civilian posts throughout the southern hemisphere including several in Antarctica.

He was a parishioner of St. Mary’s Church in Barnegat.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patricia (Adanatzian) Adair; daughter Denise Harrington and her husband, James, of Cedar Run; son Kevin and his wife Nancy (Farese) of Manahawkin; and daughter Kathleen Lee of Tokyo. Also surviving are grandchildren Kathleen, Patrick, Dennis, and Reilly Harrington; Shane, Maggie and Luke Adair; and Benika and Aiji Lee. Barry also leaves behind his sister, Gail Dunigan of Silver City, NM and brother, Douglas of San Diego, CA and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother Eugene in 2015.

Family and friends are invited to visit today from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 21 at Shinn Funeral Home 10 Hilliard Dr., Manahawkin, NJ. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Monday at 11a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Barnegat. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Manahawkin.
