2012 Relay for Life a 'Huge Success'

A Wrap up of The 2012 Relay for Life at Barnegat HS

Once again the residents of Barnegat and surrounding areas have come to Barnegat with one goal in mind. That goal: raising money to help find a cure for this dreaded deadly disease.

Barnegat Township's Relay for Life coordinated by John Germano and his team was a huge success. John leadership along with his perseverance and fortitude help make Relay for Life in Barnegat a reality. His team of dedicated hard-working volunteers work for months putting together this annual event, which is in it's third year.

This year Relay for Life brought more to the table. Many Residents of Barnegat Township have passed on due to this horrible disease including most recently a young 12-year-old boy died after a seven year fight. He taught the residents of Barnegat what the true meaning of courage is. He also taught us to "NEVER GIVE UP."

The participants of this years Relay did just that. They did not give up. They strive for the ultimate goal, a cure for cancer. They came , they walked, they lit luminaries to honor those who are dealing with cancer, those that have survived cancer and those who have become fatalities to this horrible disease.

Cancer is not about any one person. It is a group of people who have been stricken that won't give up. Friday Night people NEVER GAVE UP. They came and did their part.

I would like to also congratulate the Top Three Teams: REV IT UP, COURAGE FROM KYLE and TEAM COLLINS.

Some people in the area of the BHS Stadium were not happy of what I understand after talking to participants at Relay. They complained about noise. To these people I say "Shame on You." Why not put on a pair of sneakers and come walk a few laps, donate some coffee money and lets get a Cure! Our friends living with cancer do so 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Can't you deal with some music for a few hours? What did this complaint cause, the shutdown of our PA system and music. I just don't understand. We have phenomenal people coming together as one for the common goal, Kicking Cancer in the Caboose, and yet complaints are made. Go figure.

In closing I would like to congratulate once again Mr. John Germano, Athletic Director for Barnegat HS and coordinator of Barnegat's Relay for Life. I would also like to congratulate his team of volunteers and all who came out to help raise money.

Hopefully with the grace of God a cure will be found and cancer will be a thing of the past.
