Long Beach Island Easement Holdouts Officially Called Out

Last week, Gov. Christie warned each easement holdouts on Long Beach Island and the rest of the state that every power will be used to obtain these holdouts signatures.

As promised, as the deadline passed this week for signing easements, officials in Long Beach Township took the somewhat unusual step of publishing all the names and addresses on the township website (click here for full list) of those remaining residents who have yet to sign their easements.

In my opinion, there is no excuse for not signing, after where Gov. Christie stated "we will build only dunes," and that the state is not interested in building anything else on the easements.

There is no more time to wait for those that either think they will be given money for there easements or are just - as most would say - are selfishly holding up a project that can prevent millions in damages, all for a view.

the date the Army Corps of Engineers must submit a work plan to Congress.

The project's design – which would include the construction of approximately 25-foot high dunes, 75 foot wide berms and 175 acres of dune grass in the project area – was completed in 2007, but has languished after some oceanfront homeowners refused to sign easements that would allow the work to be completed, and maintained in the future.
