Mirage Softball: One More Before Lower Shore

Despite the temptation to play on our town's new field, the seniors opt to play again in Waretown.

OUR QUEST FOR 20
Despite temps and humidity both near 90, your Bombers traveled to Waretown this week in search of win number 17 versus a strong Heritage Point team.

Your lineup: John Vaccarello, Pat Pipi, Marty Lisella, John Arena, CSM Thomas, Jerry Giemzo, Robin Greenwald, Rich Zaccagna, Ben La Scalzo, Andy Gish, Jay Lombert and Artie Posillipo.

First, we would like to commend Rich for playing today despite having titanium pins removed from a broken leg just 10 days ago. There are not too many players in the town, let alone the team, with that dedication.

The Bombers again show what a circular lineup can do as they score two in the second and third, four in the fifth and three in the sixth on their way to another impressive 11-2 victory.

The Mirage played a near perfect game. (Save a senior moment on the bases in the fourth by our sure-to-be rookie of the year.)

Your boys improve their record to an unheard-of 17-2.

The notoriety of this team continues to grow, as we actually had fans travel down from Jersey City just to see what all the hoopla is all about. They left impressed.

Normally, we play a nine-inning game (two more innings more than the kids play), but three players from Heritage go down with muscle pulls and ask to cut our game down to seven innings.

There must be something in the water at the Mirage. We continue to laugh at whatever Mother Nature has in-store. We play anywhere, anytime.

This team has already broken the record (15) for wins in the spring season, and with four games left we have set our goal at a near impossible 20.

In the managers' show, Skip was clearly impressed. "I am rarely satisfied, but it is hard to find any fault with the boys' play today."

BOMBER BITS:

After the game, the team took a poll on whether the local political nood-nicks would again weigh in with their silly comments on how the town does not need a softball field.

The consensus is that boredom will win out and the nonsense will again begin. Lets see how long it takes. The guess here is three hours.

Today's game could have been played on Lower Shore but management resisted in favor of giving the sod and extra few days to set. "Let's do whats right and wait for the field to be competely ready."

Saturday's inter-squad game will take place as usual on Brackman at 9 a.m.

Thursday we begin a best-of-three series with Smithville. We last played Smithville three years ago, but have no idea who or what we will face next week. You can't argue with the record books; this is the strongest team in Mirage history. Management is confident, "if we play our game, we sweep."

Let's begin positive anticipation. Running toward a challenge will fortify us with the ingredients to overcome it.

No curfew tonight, boys.
