Mirage Softball...Smell the Pizza

Recap of The Mirage Bombers softball game from Thursday, May 12.

The Mirage Bombers continue to confound the experts as they added to their record by winning their eighth straight game. The Mirage had never won more than six games in a row.

This was supposed to be a re-building year for the Mirage team. Going into this season the senior softball experts tapped us to win five games at the most.

On Thursday, your Bombers lived up to their names with an impressive 14-1 victory over a combination team made up of Greenbrier and Heritage Point.

Thursday's lineup: John Vaccarello, Jerry Giemzo, John Arena, Pat Pipi, Marty Lisella, Jay Lomberk, Ben Lo Scalzo, Rich Zaccagna, Lou Traficante, Andy Gish, Mike Pappas, Bill Farmer and Artie Posillipo.

Lou T. started and pitched four shutout inings before he was lifted in favor of Artie P. "Don't screw up my shut-out, Artie," said Lou.

The wind was blowing in today so it was all up to our infield. After Monday's sub par performance, the dirt boys played gold-glove caliber. John V. patrolled the middle, Marty L. and Jerry G. covered the left side and John A. along with Rich Z. blanketed the right.

The real strength of this team lies with the lumber and today the boys were raking, led by Marty Lisella (4 rbis). They scored five in the first and never looked back. The wind was blowing in but it did not matter to this team as the hits just kept coming.

Marty was also stellar in the field, so lets give him and today's winning pitcher Lou T. game balls.

The Bombers had a little too much Mother's Day merriment and it almost cost them Monday's contest. Today there was no sign of pastry filled or hangover slowed ballplayers that we witnessed on Monday – they were focused from the opening pitch to the final out.

The Bombers have an inter-squad game on Saturday morning at Brackman field, at 9 a.m.

Our next scheduled league game is against a determined Greenbrier team at the senior center in Waretown on Monday, May 16. BP will be at 1 p.m., first pitch  is 1:30.

Eight down and three more to go...

Management still stands by their promise to their team...If you guys win 11 in a row, it's pizza and Corona for all.

Two things that are never said about true champions: Our opponents wanted the game more than we did, or they were more ready to play the game than we were. You guys proved it today. Smell the pizza!
