RIP: Sally Germano

On Sunday, Aug. 28, 2011 Barnegat lost a special person. Former Board of Education member, Sally Germano met God.

When serving with someone you get to know them. I got to know Sally. Sally was part of a core group of leaders who trusted and was trusted. Board members found an area they liked and had expertise and focused on it. Sally chose the most time consuming ways to contribute. She helped found the foundation worked with the PTA and did fund raising. Some of us looked at numbers, others facilities. Still others curriculum. Sally never let us forget the human beings behind the numbers, facilities and curriculum. Sally gave us our humanity.  

I still see her in my minds eye. She is sitting next to Kim Lally sharing the news from the community. She touched so many in life yet she continues to touch us in death. Sometime next June and every June thereafter young Barnegat men and women will receive scholarships. Most will not recognize her name. They may not know her but generations of students will find the financial burden of college lightened due to her work. Sally’s body left us but she has not. She lives through the lives she effects. Her values are reflected in the lives of her children and grandchildren. We lost a special person but heaven gained a perfect angel.
