Organizers are working to secure a new date as rain, wind and flooding will impact both the scheduled and rain dates.

LONG BEACH ISLAND, NJ — Due to the likelihood of "unfavorable" conditions this weekend, LBI Chowderfest has been officially postponed.

The festival was supposed to be held on Oct. 1 with a rain date of Oct. 2. However, Hurricane Ian is supposed to impact New Jersey this weekend, with the most rain hitting the Jersey Shore.

The committee is working with local officials to secure a new date of Oct. 15 and a rain date of Oct. 16.

"We appreciate your support as we move forward, the new date will be confirmed shortly as plans are underway to coordinate this event to mark the 10th anniversary of Super Storm Sandy as well as to raise attention to coastal resiliency and award Chowder trail Champions," organizers said.

Ocean County was issued a rip current statement, according to the National Weather Service. Minor coastal flooding is also possible on Saturday and Sunday.

"Areas from northeastern North Carolina and southeastern Virginia to coastal Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey will be subject to stiff easterly winds that will lead to above-normal tides, beach erosion and coastal flooding from Friday through Sunday," AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Joe Lundberg said.

"Please stay safe this weekend and continue to support the Chowder Trail Restaurants," Chowderfest organizers said.
