Candidates' Debate Set for Oct. 27

Five candidates will answer questions at event in municipal courtroom

The Ocean County League of Women Voters has officially announced it will host a public forum for the five candidates for Barnegat Township Committee at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27 in the .

Carol Woolley, a local representative for the League, said all five candidates running for two open seats on the Committee – Repulicans Martin Lisella and Maxine Blumenthal, Democrats Leonard Morano and Michael Howard and Independent Howard Effron – will attend.

A neutral party from outside the township will moderate the forum.

Woolley said the League chose the 120-person-capacity courtroom as a venue for the event because audio equipment is already installed there, whereas setup would have been required at the Brackman School, which was also explored as a site.

"This is a perfect opportunity for you to come out and hear what the candidates have to say about all your issues," Woolley said in a news release. "It is also a great civics lesson for you to bring your children to this forum, and for students to bring their parents."
