Deacon George L. Walker, Korean War Veteran, Dies At 86

Services for St. Francis of Assisi deacon will he held on Sunday and Monday.

Deacon George L. Walker, 86, of Manahawkin, passed away on Wednesday, July 20, 2016.

Born in Hoboken, he lived in Rutherford, NJ before moving to Manahawkin, where he resided for 22 years. He was employed by Maxwell House Coffee for 41 years in Hoboken, prior to his retirement. He also proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He was a Permanent Deacon, serving the parish community of St. Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach.

Deacon George is predeceased by his brothers James and John Walker and his sister Catherine Amato. He is survived by his wife Phyllis M. Walker (nee Matarazzo), his four sons; George K., Thomas, Brian and Sean Walker, his four daughters; Karen Walker, Erin Polakowski, Regina Pennabere and Sheila Greenberg, his two brothers Bernard and Dennis Walker, his ten grandchildren, four great grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 pm. on Sunday, July 24, 2016 and on Monday, July 25, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at St Francis of Assisi Church, Brant Beach. Following visitation, a Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the church. Interment will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in Manahawkin.
