Driver Hits Stafford Cop Car, Flees On Camera: Police

The driver was charged with DWI after the incident was caught on a dash cam, police said.

A driver crashed into a parked Stafford police car and abruptly fled the scene Sunday on Route 9, according to police. A Stafford officer had pulled another driver over when the vehicle struck the left side of their police car, authorities said.

Another officer stopped William D. Dippolito Jr., 31, of Lanoka Harbor, up Route 9 northbound near Marybell Road and charged him with DWI, police said. The incident occurred at approximately 12:43 a.m. Sunday by Southern Regional High School, police said. The officer's dash cam caught the crash.

The officer in the vehicle he hit was not injured, but the patrol vehicle was towed, according to police. Police issued several summonses to Dippolito, including DWI, leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident and failing to report a motor vehicle accident.
